Dispose of Paint Cans Properly – Junk Removal Tips

Here’s a quick and easy way to dispose of paint cans

Shelf Life of Paint Cans:

When it comes to junk removal, we get asked how to properly dispose of paint cans a lot! Normally household paint such as latex-based paint can last up to ten years and oil-based paint can last up to fifteen years when stored properly. To ensure you are properly storing your paint cans, you must make sure that the lids are sealed airtight on the can. You will also need to store the paint cans in a cool, dry, dark location such as the basement, garage, and/or sheds. Extreme cold or hot temperatures can ruin your paint.

Disposal of Paint Cans:

When it’s time to get rid of your old paint, you have a couple of options. A good safe option is to have an experienced junk removal company such as Junk Unlimited, LLC properly dispose of the paint for you. We at Junk Unlimited, LLC are a green company and when disposing of your paint, we take the environment seriously. We will not illegally dump paint cans. Another option to dispose of the paint will take a lot more work and will need to be done carefully to ensure that the paint cans are environmentally safe to dispose of.

Step 1:

Add equal parts cat litter to the paint in the can.

Step 2:

Stir the cat litter into the paint until the paint thickens and will not spill. Let the mixture sit for an hour.

Step 3:

At this point, you can throw the can(s) in the garbage. Please make sure to remove the lid.

*repeat these steps for multiple paint cans.
